Louis-Vincent Hamel – drums

Gentiane MG (Michaud-Gagnon) is a young pianist who has been active on the Canadian jazz scene for several years. Originally from Saguenay, Quebec, Gentiane studied in Chicoutimi before leaving for Montreal to pursue her studies in Jazz Performance. Twice a McGill award winner, she studied with Jan Jarczyk, Rémi Bolduc, Andre White and internationally renowned pianist Jean-Michel Pilc. She has performed alongside numerous highly-regarded musicians including Jim Doxas, Adrian Vedady, Yannick Rieu, Dave Laing and John Hollenbeck.

Her first trio album “Eternal Cycle” featuring bassist Levi Dover and drummer Louis-Vincent Hamel was named by CBC Music as being one of the ten outstanding jazz releases of 2017. The unconventional forms of the pieces lay out a framework which inspires creative freedom. The depth of lyricism in the compositions is met by an equal force of unpredictability and openness, allowing the musicians to express their three personalities, at once unique and complementary. The recording also received the Prix François-Marcaurelle de la Guilde des Musiciens du Québec.

Gentiane’s second album “Wonderland” was released earlier this year. She describes “Wonderland “ as “a place of endless possibilities. A place where things can be different. A place reminding me every day that there is something larger than myself, larger than art, larger than life and death. It is a place where all things meet and keep growing infinitely.”
